At home with Eva: 3 influencers chat to us about motherhood.

To celebrate Mother’s Day this year, we sat down with three of our favourite mums to chat all things motherhood, self-care and to seek their advice on getting through these tough times.

Catherine Wisemantal (@mama__wise)

"Never compare yourself to anyone else — especially as a mother. We're all on our own journey and we have no idea what other mums have going on in their life."

What’s your favourite part about being a mum?

There are too many good parts to name. But I can't go past their hugs and sloppy kisses in bed every morning (followed by a random elbow in the face).

How are you keeping the kids entertained at home?

Lego! We have been building lots of towers and buildings. Puzzles and mind games are also a favourite, as well as cooking. We go for lots of walks and bike rides. Schoolwork happens somewhere amongst all of that :)

Describe your ideal day at home.

Waking up before the rest of the house does. Sitting in my favourite chair drinking coffee in silence. Playing a family game of monopoly. Pottering in my garden. Eating hubby's cooking and drinking a good chardonnay! (when I'm not pregnant...)

Are there any self-care rituals you swear by?

Absolutely. Feed yourself first before you make food for everyone else. Otherwise, us mums end up eating the scraps and leftovers, instead of a proper meal. Have a certain time of day that is YOU time. For me, it's between 2pm-3pm. The kids must busy themselves and not come into my room for an hour (unless they're dying). I've also been having baths each night after the kids have gone to bed. I sleep a lot better afterwards and therefore I'm fresher in the morning.

What’s the best Mother’s Day present you’ve ever received (or given)?

Yes, my husband gave me a really beautiful gift last year. It was a big card that said: "Yes to child #3" I had been trying to convince him for a while that I'd love another baby, and he wasn't sure. And here we are today - 6 weeks until I'm due with this precious baby!

Tell us what you're reading, watching or listening to right now!

Reading 'The Postnatal Depletion Cure' ~ a good one for mum's who are about to have a baby! and I'm watching 'Money Heist' on Netflix. So good!!

What’s your favourite Eva product to date?

We have the Eva Mattress and I can honestly say it's changed my back and pelvis completely. As a pregnant woman, I normally can't get comfortable in any position! But the Eva Mattress has changed all of that, and I now sleep soundly without waking up with a sore back. Hubby snores less too so that's a bonus!

"When I first become a mother, I was only 20 years old. I remember my mother telling me it was ok to have bad days. We are all just learning as we go."

What’s your favourite part about being a mum?

For me, it is definitely watching my children grow and develop their own unique personalities. They both have such quirky souls.

How are you keeping the kids entertained at home?

There have been many days involving art, dancing, baking and afternoon walks.

Describe your ideal day at home.

My ideal day at home would definitely involve a nice sleep-in, followed by coffee. No house works (we can always dream) and a take away for dinner.

Are there any self-care rituals you swear by?

As a mum, I think we tend to forget about ourselves in the chaos of daily life. This year I made the choice to take some time out for myself every afternoon. It usually involves doing a skincare routine, followed by some quiet time to read a book.

Is there anything you’re secretly (or not so secretly) hoping the kids gift you this year?

I have not so secretly requested a feature wall in the bedroom for my gift this year. Something that the kids can help build, and that I can admire every morning when I wake up.

I am currently reading The Girls, by Chloe Higgins. Probably way too much of an emotional read for being in home isolation. But it has been incredible to hear that during the darkest of hours, there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

What’s your favourite Eva product to date?

This is a tough question because I LOVE all of my Eva products! The Bed Frame is the perfect minimalist and timeless design. The Eva Pillow has resolved all of neck discomfort.  But, I would have to say my Eva Mattress. It has completely transformed my sleeping pattern.

What’s your favourite part about being a mum?

There are many things I love about being a mum, however, one of my favourites is without a doubt the unprovoked “I love you” said on a whim by the little ones in passing – just because!

Describe your ideal day at home.

I love being at home – I have always been a true “homebody” and love nothing more than hanging out in my trackies!

I believe in having a morning routine, which starts the day off on the right foot and I love getting the kids involved. I don’t believe they’re ever too young to get involved and help - it also gives them great pride in their independence.

Therefore my ideal day would start the same as every other: We wake up, have breakfast, make our beds, get dressed, and brush our teeth.

Then hit our local track for a bike ride and afternoon tea at our local café before heading back home for cubbies, board game and lunch.

The afternoon would be spent in the garden, doing arts and craft and jumping on the trampoline before snuggling up on the couch to watch a movie together with takeaway dinner… and an early night for all He-he.

Are there any self-care rituals you swear by?

Making time to exercise. It’s so important to move our bodies each day. Both my physical and mental health thank me for this routine.

Is there anything you’re secretly (or not so secretly) hoping the kids gift you this year?

Bath salts… Ha-ha. This had been a handmade gift I had received in the past (bless them). Whilst made with love and a super sweet thought, the bath salts were overwhelmingly though if I am completely honest, the bath salts stunk, and I didn’t have the heart to tell them, so they ran me a bath for me to enjoy the stench! ha-ha

First place you’ll head to after quarantine?

To the beach! We had to cancel a family holiday to Sri Lanka due to COVID19, so hubby and I are looking forward to taking the kids on a mini trip a local beach. Whilst it may not be the holiday we had planned, it will an amazing little getaway all the same.

Tell us what you're reading, watching or listening to right now!

I am currently listening to an inspiring audiobook called The Resilience Project by Hugh Van Cuylenburg.

What’s your favourite Eva product to date?

My daughter’s double bed, it’s incredibly comfortable and makes me want to upgrade our mattress to a King-sized Eva!
